Russia to Introduce Electronic Veterinary Certificates

RUSSIA - Russia is to introduce electronic veterinary certificates from February 2017.

The new rules for the electronic certificates have been developed and approved by the ministry of agriculture.and will be available to all farmers who have already expressed desire to work using the electronic system.

They will receive the improved electronic certificates for free.

Direct registration of for the certificates can be made on the state information system "Mercury”, which is supervised by Rosselhoznadzor, the Russian veterinary authority.

The new system will mean that all data on certification of products that was made by existing oversight bodies can be obtained from one database.

The new system will enable the transfer function of issuing certificates to private companies for recalled products and also to revoke the transport certificates.

From February 2016, manufacturers will have to have certificates for packaged, heat-treated products.

According to Deputy Head of Rosselkhoznadzor, the new system will also be tested on some dairy processors.
