Pig Farmers in Ellembelle District Receive Assistance25 August 2014
GHANA - The livestock division of the Ministry of Food and Agriculture on Wednesday supplied some pig farmers affected by African Swine fever months ago within the Ellembelle District of the Western Region with pigs to enable them to get back to business.
GhanaWeb reports that a significant number of the breed of livestock had been distributed to communities such as Anochiei, Baku, Sanzule Ngaletole and Ngalekyi, where the disease greatly affected the livelihood of farmers.
The distribution exercise was carried out under the supervision of the Regional Livestock Director Daniel Asimenu, the District Chief Executive, Daniel Eshun, and Member of Parliament for the area Emmanuel Kofi Buah.
Mr Asimenu said the government shared in the grief of the farmers and that the animals have been given out on credit, so they may pay back for them in the years to come.
Pig farmers in the Ellembelle District suffered massively from the disease, killing over 500 pigs.
