Russian African Swine Fever Outbreaks Affect Wild Boars

RUSSIA - The Russian veterinary authorities have reported an outbreak of African swine fever in Pskov Oblast, affecting wild boars.

According to follow-up report no. 29 sent to the World Organisation for Animal Health (OIE) on Monday, 8 September, two wild boars were found affected by the ASF virus. Both animals were destroyed.

The outbreak took place on 22 July, and the presence of the ASF virus was confirmed on 26 August after antigen (Ag) detection ELISA, direct immunofluorescence (DIF) and polymerase chain reaction (PCR) tests were conducted at the Government budget institution Tver oblast veterinary laboratory.

The source of the outbreaks has not yet been determined.
