Norway's New Requirements for Imported Pig Blood

NORWAY - The country has introduced additional requirements for blood products from pigs imported from countries outside the European Economic Area to prevent the spread of porcine epidemic diarrhoea (PED).

The new requirements are that blood pork products from countries outside the European Economic Area (PED) that will be used as feed for pigs must be heat treated at 80°C, stored under dry storage conditions at room temperature for at least six weeks and shall contain not more than eight per cent water.

This effective 9 September 2014.

It is the EU that has set standards of imported pig blood to prevent the spread of contagious pig diarrhoea (Porcine epidemic Diarrhoea, PED), cf. Regulation (EU) No. 483/2014.

Because Norway is lagging behind with the implementation of the EU latest issue of by-product regulations, import requirements put in a new §3A of current regulations.
