Update on Swine Enteric Coronavirus Disease in the US

US - The number of pig farm samples that are confirmed positive for porcine epidemic diarrhoea virus (PEDV) in the last week was 22. None was confirmed positive for porcine deltacoronavirus (PDCoV).

For the latest week – 21 to 27 December 2014 – there were 22 new confirmed positive premises for PEDV and eight presumed positive, according to the latest report from USDA APHIS made available by the American Association of Swine Veterinarians (AASV).

For the same period, no premises were confirmed or presumed positive for PDCoV.

One premises was confirmed with a dual infection (both PEDV and PDCoV) and there were no suspected cases.

The total numbers of confirmed positive premises for the latest week were 606, 23 and 22 for PEDV, PDCoV and the dual infection, respectively.

Since 5 June, for PEDV, there have been 625 confirmed positive premises, 360 presumed positive and 15 previously positive premises that have attained negative status.

For PDCoV, the total for the same period are 28, 26 and five, respectively. For the dual infection, the totals are 22, 26 and one, respectively.

Location of Positive Premises

PEDV

There are currently 33 states with at least one confirmed positive case of PEDV.

For the current week (21 December), there were 50 PEDV-positive laboratory accessions, bringing the total since 5 June 2014 to 2,388. Iowa reported 10 of these new cases, Illinois, seven and Minnesota, six.

Also reporting positive results in this most recent week were California, Colorado, Indiana, Kansas, Missouri, North Carolina, Nebraska, Nevada and Utah.

PDCoV

There are currently 17 states with at least one confirmed positive case of PDCoV.

For the current week (21 December), there were eight PDCoV-positive laboratory accessions, bringing the total since 5 June 2014 to 245. There were four positive premises in Illinois, two in Minnesota and one each in Iowa and "unknown".

Dual infection with PEDV and PDCoV

There are currently 13 states with one or more confirmed positive cases of the dual infection with both PEDV and PDCoV.
