Update on Swine Enteric Coronavirus Disease in US

US - The number of pig farm samples that are confirmed positive for porcine epidemic diarrhoea virus (PEDV) in the last week was 39, and three premises were confirmed with porcine deltacoronavirus (PDCoV).

For the latest week – 4 to 10 January 2015 – there were 39 new confirmed positive premises for PEDV and six presumed positive, according to the latest report from USDA APHIS.

For the same period, three premises were confirmed positive for PDCoV but none was presumed positive, neither were there any confirmed or presumed dual infections (both PEDV and PDCoV).

The total numbers of premises with confirmed positive status for the current week are 653, 26 and 22 for PEDV, PDCoV and the dual infection, respectively.

Since 5 June, for PEDV, there have been 677 confirmed positive premises, 367 presumed positive and 20 previously positive premises that have attained negative status.

For PDCoV, the total for the same period are 31, 26 and six, respectively. For the dual infection, the totals are 22, 26 and one, respectively.

Location of Positive Premises

PEDV

There are currently 33 states with at least one confirmed positive case of PEDV.

For the current week (4 January), there were 115 PEDV-positive laboratory accessions, bringing the total since 5 June 2014 to 2,575. Iowa reported 37 of these new cases, Illinois 12, North Carolina 11, Minnesota 10 and Missouri, nine.

Also reporting positive results in this most recent week were Arizona, California, Colorado, Idaho, Indiana, Kansas, Michigan, Nebraska, Ohio, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, South Dakota, Texas, Utah and Wyoming.

PDCoV

There are currently 17 states with at least one confirmed positive case of PDCoV.

For the current week (4 January), there were 16 PDCoV-positive laboratory accessions, bringing the total since 5 June 2014 to 272. There were three positive premises each in Iowa and Illinois, two each in California, Michigan and Minnesota and one each in Idaho, Indiana, Missouri and Oklahoma.

Dual infection with PEDV and PDCoV

There are currently 13 states with one or more confirmed positive cases of the dual infection with both PEDV and PDCoV.
