Update on Swine Enteric Coronavirus Disease in US

US - The number of pig farm samples that are confirmed positive for porcine epidemic diarrhoea virus (PEDV) in the last week was 44, and two premises were confirmed with porcine deltacoronavirus (PDCoV).

For the latest week – 11 to 17 January 2015 – there were 44 new confirmed positive premises for PEDV and four presumed positive, according to the latest report from USDA APHIS.

For the same period, two premises were confirmed positive for PDCoV but none was presumed positive, and there was one confirmed dual infection (both PEDV and PDCoV) but no presumed positives.

The total numbers of premises with confirmed positive status for the current week are 696, 28 and 23 for PEDV, PDCoV and the dual infection, respectively.

Since 5 June, for PEDV, there have been 721 confirmed positive premises, 371 presumed positive and 20 previously positive premises that have attained negative status.

For PDCoV, the total for the same period are 33, 26 and five, respectively. For the dual infection, the totals are 23, 26 and one, respectively.

Location of Positive Premises

PEDV

There are currently 33 states with at least one confirmed positive case of PEDV.

For the current week (11 January), there were 118 PEDV-positive laboratory accessions, bringing the total since 5 June 2014 to 2,664. Iowa reported 49 of these new cases and Minnesota, 16.

Also reporting positive results in this most recent week were California, Colorado, Idaho, Illinois, Indiana, Kansas, Kentucky, Michigan, Missouri, North Carolina, Nebraska, Ohio, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, Texas, Utah and Wisconsin.

PDCoV

There are currently 17 states with at least one confirmed positive case of PDCoV.

For the current week (11 January), there were 10 PDCoV-positive laboratory accessions, bringing the total since 5 June 2014 to 274. There were four positive premises each in Iowa, two in Illinois and one each in Idaho, Indiana, Minnesota and "unknown".

Dual infection with PEDV and PDCoV

There are currently 13 states with one or more confirmed positive cases of the dual infection with both PEDV and PDCoV.
