In the UK, the government's independent advisers, the Committee on Climate Change, has issued a call for evidence for its Fifth Carbon Budget.

The Committee asks a number of questions including "what are the opportunities and challenges in reducing emissions to 2032 and at what cost?"

For agriculture, this means looking ahead to what technologies like precision farming and practices for managing nutrients, livestock, soil, might be available to help your business become more productive.

Of the two EU consultations on mechanisms to deliver the EU's commitments on reducing GHGs to 2030, the questions on how to address emissions from agriculture, land and forestry include:

  • How to optimise the generation of renewables and raw materials from agriculture whilst also reducing GHGs
  • Like the CCC, it wants to know what are the most promising and cost-effective measures to improve productivity and efficiency and so reduce GHGs?
  • What are the main barriers to getting the right technologies and practices implemented on-farm?
  • How to get the right balance of effort across Member States
