Dedicated to helping veterinarians and producers find ways to improve reproduction practices, Ceva is contributing research funds to explore topics that can advance swine reproductive performance on-farm.

“Through our research awards, we want to help elevate the focus on reproduction and advance breeding practices,” says Gary Robertson, director, Swine Business Unit.

“Simply, we want to offer more dollars specifically designated to fulfill unmet needs in swine reproductive research.”

The research proposals, which are open to North American swine practitioners and technicians as well as private and public researchers, will be evaluated by an independent review board made up of swine reproductive experts.

The proposals will be evaluated based on their overall objective and how the research can be applied in operational settings. Because of this criteria, the research board will only consider proposals that are either applied or fundamental research as defined by the following:

  • Applied research: Research conducted on specifically identified reproductive problems of gilts and sows that provides information and technology that may be transferred to users and may relate to a product, practice or process.

  • Fundamental research: Research directed at testing scientific hypotheses and providing basic knowledge that enables advancements in applied research and from which major conceptual breakthroughs are expected to occur.

“Ceva is committed to helping solve problems in the swine industry that have gone unanswered and ensuring we are constantly striving to find ways to help our customers investigate disease and other production obstacles,” Robertson says.

"We want to empower researchers to be creative, innovative and bold in the questions they will answer and the studies they design."

Deadline for submission is September 1, 2015, and winners will be announced later in the month. All mailed proposals should be postmarked by September 1, 2015, and any email submissions must be received by midnight on the same date.

Proposals should include the following:

  • Principal investigator and project title
  • Project objective
  • Current status of problem
  • Detailed description of proposed program
  • Outline of entire research process
  • Budget for project
