Genesus - The first power in genetics

VIET NAM - The National TET holiday for the Lunar New Year officially seems to last about 10 days from February 4th to February 14th. However, the business was slowed down a week before and after the official holidays. Many company internal business meetings will take place after the New Year holiday to make their plans for the coming year, write Paul Anderson and Meggie Vo.

Up till the end of February 2016 Pig Farming in Vietnam is generally favorable, the Countries health status remains fairly stable except for some outbreaks of PED in the North, which is believed to have come in the feedstuffs imported from the USA, PRRS (Blue Ear) is not currently causing any major problems.

According to estimates by the General Statistics Office, pork increased by 3-3.5 per cent and despite this the price of pork in the market remained beneficial to farmers.

Pork Prices in the Southeast and Mekong Delta provinces tends to increase in February due to strong demand in the Lunar New Year. Compared to the end of January, the price of pork increased by 4,000 – 4,500 VND/kg up to 44,000 - 45,000 VND/ kg. In the north, pork prices fluctuate around 46,500 to 50,000 VND/ kg. Peak at 52,000 VND / kg.

Compared with 2014, prices of animal feed in 2015 a downward trend. Most of the major raw materials dropped: (down 15.1 per cent), soybean meal (down 28.3 per cent), rice bran (reduced 6.1 per cent), cassava (down 6.8 per cent, Lysine (down 14.7 per cent). Prices of other raw materials rose: (up 13.6 per cent), Methionine (10.2 per cent).

With these statistics the outlook in Vietnam continues to look positive, existing pig producers are planning to import swine genetics to improve their on farm performance, some of the larger pig producers are also expanding their sow herds or building new farms. We are also seeing a number of private equity investors from outside Vietnam looking at investing into the Vietnamese pig market.
