Dr. Eva Jablonski, technical services veterinarian with Zoetis, speaks with ThePigSite's Sarah Mikesell about responsible antibiotic use.

"Zoetis is proud to support both veterinarians and producers alike in the responsible use of antibiotics," said Dr. Eva Jablonski, technical services veterinarian with Zoetis. "Whether that is for companion animals or livestock, we want to make sure that we raise healthy animals to be able to produce meat, milk and eggs to feed not only our families, but others around the world."

Zoetis' antibiotic stewardship platform is built upon three pillars:

  1. Advocate
  2. Innovate
  3. Collaborate

"We advocate to continue to tell our story of how appropriate use of medications is important to keep animals healthy. We innovate to develop new ideas and tools to, again, keep our animals healthy while also preserving the efficacy of antibiotics and we collaborate," said Dr. Jablonski. "We collaborate as part of the One Health Initiative with other medical professionals, focusing on maintaining the efficacy of antibiotics."

Zoetis' platform is built on an existing program - The Individual Pig Care Program.

"Individual Pig Care is really focused at the producer and caretaker level for identifying sick pigs early in the course of disease, treating them with the appropriate medication and having a better response to that treatment," she said.

Zoetis offers an online resource - responsibleantibioticuse.com - that is dedicated to answering questions about the use of antibiotics.
