UECBV President urges swift decision from Brexit negotiators

27 October 2017

Philippe Borremans, UECBV President, spoke out at last week’s UECBV AGM when Brexit entered the day’s discussions.

At the 66th European Livestock and Meat Trades Union (UECBV) AGM last Friday, Brexit was another anticipated topic that brought-to-light some common concerns regarding trade between EU and non-EUUECBV AGM quote regions. At the annual meeting in Bucharest, Borremans urged the negotiators to make haste in reaching conclusions during discussions on transitionary arrangements protecting businesses.

The changes brought about by Brexit are far reaching and impact many EU Member States. Already, the EU food industry delivering to the UK has suffered significant losses after the Referendum last year (> €500 million), as a result of Sterling depreciation.

Whilst negotiation is underway, with Heads of State and Chiefs of Government monitoring all aspects of the exit procedure, a great deal of uncertainty is faced across the food business.
