Print This Page New in-feed antibiotic for pigs - Aivlosin
UK - Schering-Plough Animal Heath have recently announced the launch of an innovative new antibiotic for use in feed.
Called Aivlosin, this product is a new macrolide antibiotic licensed as a premix for medicating pig feed. Initially indicated for treatment and prevention of enzootic pneumonia caused by Mycoplasma hyopneumoniae, scientific information presented at the 18th I.P.V.S. congress in Hamburg depicted the products efficacy for the prevention and treatment of Swine Dysentery and Ileitis.
Trials with Aivlosin for the treatment of enzootic pneumonia have shown a significant reduction in lung lesions compared to controls and a 25% improvement over valnemulin. For prevention of enzootic pneumonia, Aivlosin has been shown to give improved lung lesion scores when compared to tylosin.
Commenting on the launch of this new product, Ross Kelly BVMS MRCVS, pig veterinary advisor for Schering-Plough, stated that "Aivlosin represents a significant and exciting new development in the treatment and prevention of these infectious diseases in pigs. Innovation and continued new product development are at the heart of the overall pig strategy at Schering-Plough and we are delighted that Aivlosin marks another significant addition to the Schering-Plough pig portfolio," he added.
