Co-ordinated by Dr Gordon Allan, of the veterinary sciences division of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development in Northern Ireland, and the department of veterinary sciences at Queen's, the £3.7m EU-funded project involves 15 partners from eight different countries, including the US and Canada.
Porcine cirovirus diseases - notably PMWS - affect the pig's immune system and symptoms include a slower growth rate, lingering disease and immune system dysfunction.
