Porcilis PRRS now available for Spanish sows
UK - Intervet Spain hosted an international seminar in Madrid to mark the newly obtained marketing approval for the use of Porcilis PRRS in breeding stock.
The opening of this very well attended seminar was in the hands of Dr Fernando Franco, General Manager of Intervet Spain.
He was followed by informative contributions from Mrs DR Cinta Prieto (Veterinary Faculty of the University of Madrid) on respiratory and reproductive problems induced by the PRRS virus, Dr Kelly Lager (NADC USDA-ARS) on the PRRS situation in the USA, Drs Bart Mourits (Intervet) highlighting the safety features of Porcilis PRRS and Dr John Hayden (Integra Veterinary Services in the UK) on practical experience with the vaccine.
The meeting was concluded by Dr Jose Manuel Sanchez Vizcaino, President of Anaporc.
Porcilis PRRS is the number one PRRS vaccine in Europe, and at the end of 2004 the registration authorities finally approved the indication for use in breeding stock. Clearly many questions needed to be asked in view of the recent history of mlv PRRS vaccines in Europe. The well-documented safety and genetic stability of the Porcilis PRRS vaccine strain obviously provided satisfactory answers.
