National Pork Board to Discuss Progress of New Campaign at Business Meeting
06 July 2005US - The National Pork Board will review key pork industry programs at its business meeting July 20-22 in Dallas, Tex. The meeting “will give the board of directors an opportunity to review its investment in key marketing programs,” said Steve Murphy, chief executive officer of the National Pork Board.
The single largest new Checkoff program in 2005, he said, is the “Don’t be blah” campaign that is focused on the branding and repositioning of pork.
“A review of the campaign and its results to date will be presented to the board,” said Murphy. “The 15 board members also will be exposed firsthand to some of the new marketing and retail strategies established for the “Don’t be blah campaign’.” This portion of the meeting will be held at the offices of the National Pork Board’s new marketing agency, The Richards Group.
Murphy said the business portion of the meeting will be held from 8 a.m. until noon on Friday, July 22. The meeting will be attended by National Pork Board members, as well as marketing staff from The Richards Group and senior staff members at the National Pork Board. The meeting is open to the public so they may better understand producers’ investment in the pork Checkoff, said Murphy. Persons planning to attend the meeting should contact Lorraine Garner at (515) 223-2637 or at Lorraine.Garner@porkboard.org
The National Pork Board has responsibility for Checkoff-funded research, promotion and consumer information projects and for communicating with pork producers and the public. Through a legislative national Pork Checkoff, pork producers invest $0.40 for each $100 value of hogs sold. The Pork Checkoff fund national and state programs in advertising, consumer information, retail and foodservice marketing, export market promotion, production improvement, technology, swine health and pork safety.
