AUSTRALIA - The Murray-Mallee Pig Producers Group says it is pleased with the way an investigation is being handled into a potential outbreak of a fatal pig disease in a South Australian piggery. The site has been quarantined while tests are undertaken for the presence of post-weaning multi-systemic wasting syndrome among its herd.
A statement from the Federal Agriculture Department says investigations so far have been inconclusive.
The president of Murray-Mallee Pig Producers, Mark McLean, says the movement restrictions in place on the farm are a good move.
"If the site's under suspicion and it's quarantined, I have no doubt that we can contain things like this so long as we understand the movements that have gone on," he said.
"I think quarantine's a very important thing for each individual farm to take on board and look at the movements on and off farms and people and particularly pig access."
