ACMC to sponsor YFC pig judging at the Great Yorkshire Show

UK - Yorkshire-based international pig-breeding company ACMC is to sponsor the Yorkshire and East Riding Federations of Young Farmers' Clubs' pig stock-judging competition again at the Great Yorkshire Show in 2006.

This follows a well-attended competition in 2005, when 23 Young Farmers competed in two classes - the over-18s and under-18s - for £100 of prize money donated by the company. Overall winner was Alex Crabtree of Farnley Estate YFC who competed in the under-18s.

Winners at this year's pig stock-judging competition were (l to r) Sarah Priestly, Aire Valley YFC; Emily Warin, Aire Valley YFC; Vicky Ryder, Farnley Estate YFC; Ben Stancliffe, Farnley Estate YFC; Lucy Campbell, presenting the awards on behalf of ACMC, Alex Crabtree, Farnley Estate YFC and Sarah Leach, Worth Valley YFC
"While modern pig-breeding needs objective performance figures to improve valuable genetic traits, it is important that we don't overlook vital traditional visual skills relating to conformation such as good legs, underlines and general 'liveability'," commented ACMC chairman, Stephen Curtis.

"The high quality of British pigs is recognised around the world and we want to encourage the next generation of farmers and stockmen to become involved in this very important sector of farming," he added.
