Livestock face challenges when non-optimum amounts of trace minerals are provided. The inclusion of trace mineral sources via premix in the feed improves the amount of trace metal delivered. Although, for an optimal prediction of the trace metal delivered to the animal, more bioavailable sources of trace minerals such as Hydroxichlorides (HTM) and organics (OTM) might be required.

Research results indicate that zinc oxide absorption rates vary based on the quality of zinc oxide and how it was manufactured. In general terms, ZnO sources originated from Waelz manufacturing process present the larger variability and lower RBV results.
