(79) The previous sections have illustrated some of the consequences of management failure, particularly in planning, that can lead not only to production problems but also to major disease breakdowns. The collection of records and their use are vital components necessary to develop management strategies. Whilst there are many computer programmes available for recording pig herds and many of these are highly efficient, nevertheless it is important to understand the basic principles of using records for production and disease control.
