Administrating Medicines Topically

(138) These can be applied to the nose, mouth, ears, eyes, skin and feet. Treatments to the skin are either applied by spray, liquid or immersion of the pig, and used against skin parasites, such as mange or lice or greasy pig disease. Some medicines are poured onto the skin from which they may be absorbed and distributed throughout the body. Mange is treated this way using 20% phosmet (Porect). Topical administration of medicines is simple cheap and causes the pig least stress. As techniques develop it could be come an increasingly used procedure.
