Revolutionary new tool: the IDAL Vaccinator

THE NETHERLANDS - Intervet's IDAL Vaccinator is a revolutionary needleless vaccination device, that allows intradermal application of swine vaccines. Due to its unique nature it has a number of advantages over traditional vaccination techniques.

Intervet/Schering-Plough Animal Health

The IDAL Vaccinator has three revolutionary features:

  1. It is controlled electronically
  2. There is no needle
  3. It delivers the vaccine intradermally This innovative device makes the vaccination easier and safer for the operator, and a lot more friendly for the pigs.

Click Here To View Product The IDAL vaccinator delivers only 0.2 ml of vaccine into the thickness of the skin, without a needle. So there are several advantages:

  • No invasion of muscle tissue, so no damage to the meat
  • No danger of broken needles remaining in skin or muscle
  • Vaccination is not confined to a restricted site
  • No local reactions
  • No systemic reactions
  • Animals are not stressed by an injection
  • Ease of use for the operator
The Intervet vaccines - Porcilis Begonia (for the control and/or eradication of Aujeszky's Disease) and Porcilis PRRS (against PRRS virus infection) - are approved for use with the IDAL.

The vaccinator is already in use in several countries around the world, with good results.

Features built into the IDAL:
  • An automatic rinsing system: the device recognizes the rinsing fluid as such and automatically pumps a limited number of doses through the system, at low pressure, to clean the interior, leaving the device in resting mode
  • An automatic vaccine recognition system: the device will only deliver a dose at the correct operating pressure once it recognizes that it contains vaccine (not rinsing fluid)
  • An automatic dose release system: when on standby, the device automatically releases a dose of vaccine when pressed against the skin of the animal
  • A visual display including dose counter: the counter can be switched between 'doses per session' and 'total doses delivered', and other useful information about the current status of the device is also displayed
  • Battery-operated: 500 doses per fully charged battery
  • Two batteries included: so that one can be charged while the other is in use
  • Waterproof: the exterior of the device can be rinsed under a tap
  • The device can withstand autoclaving up to a maximum of 100°C for 60 minutes
  • Robust and shock-proof casing, allows the IDAL to survive under farm conditions
  • Officially registered for use with specific products with a specific dose volume (see elsewhere for details of products approved for use with the IDAL)
  • The IDAL vaccinator is available through your local Intervet office
