ZIMBABWE - The Pig Industry Board (PIB) has developed a database of all suppliers in the industry meant to assist farmers procure low cost inputs and enhance productivity, an official has said. The director, Dr Paul Ndiweni, said the database, called the Farmer Direct Feed would service the whole industry.
“The Farmer Direct Feed database has been developed to boost the pig industry as it will enable pig farmers to access stock feed quickly from their sources. This will save time for farmers as they will not go through third parties when buying the feed.
“The database will reduce costs by streamlining the supply chain and reducing trading costs. Some middlemen take advantage of price escalations to charge exorbitant feed prices to farmers, cutting down their profit margins,” he said.
Dr Ndiweni said the board wants to increase the number of pig farmers so that pork supplies may increase.
