Novel slurry storage system for Stotfold
UK - As there isn’t enough land to build new slurry storage at British Pig Executive’s pig development unit at Stotfold, a portable bag system from Holland has been installed.|
NPA is active on members' behalf in Brussels & Whitehall, and with processors, supermarkets & caterers - fighting for the growth and pros-perity of the UK pig industry. |
A layer of wood chip was spread out. It was felt this would offer a soft bed, and also as it does not support burrows would reduce the likelihood of rodents or rabbits wishing to take residence beneath. A layer of puncture proof geo-textile mat was then laid out, before the bag was unravelled. This operation is carried out by two men and takes a few minutes.
To date the only problem encountered was due to an area of ground which sank causing the bag to roll slightly. Once the bag was empty, this was rectified. Visitors to the site comment on the neatness of the system and lack of smell.
