VIETNAM - A conference Saturday in Vietnam cautioned against consumption of cattle and pig meat as nearly half of Vietnam is ravaged by foot-and-mouth disease, an animal disease transmissible to humans in rare cases.Assistant Professor Dr Tran Dang, head of the health ministry’s food safety and hygiene department, said pork and other cattle meat, if cooked rare, could pass surviving viruses to humans, causing mouth and lip ulcers.
