Print This Page Swine fever spreading
INDIA - Swine fever has been spreading among the pig population of the state, according reports.Close on the heels of the death of pigs in a small farm at Muttil, near here, which was confirmed as due to ‘swine fever’ through laboratory diagnosis, mass death of pigs has been reported from Kakkayam near Koorachundu in Kozhikode district, according to officials of the Animal Husbandry Department.
The pigs which died in the farm at Muttil had been brought from various pig farms of Thrissur district.
Though the owner first ignored the death of baby pigs, he was forced to approach the Animal Husbandry Department here when a large number of pigs died in the farm. A postmortem of the dead animals were conducted and serum was collected for further tests.
