Hogs and pigs report comes out close to expectations
US - The United States Department of Agriculture's National Agricultural Statistics Service released its' Quarterly Hogs and Pigs Report Friday, June 30. Figures came out very close to pre-report estimates and look neutral to at least mildly bullish.All hogs in the U.S. as of June 1 were reported as steady with a year ago, compared to expectations for 100.5% to 101.5%. Hogs kept for breeding came out at 101%, in the middle of the 100% to 102% pre-report range. Marketings were unchanged from a year ago, compared to estimates for 100% to 101.5%.
Hogs weighing less than 60 pounds were reported at 101%, at the low end of the range of estimates. Hogs from 60 to 119 pounds were pegged at 100% of a year ago, lower than all expectations. Hogs from 120 to 179 pounds were steady with last year. Analysts had been expecting 100% to 102%. Hogs weighing 180 pounds and over were placed at 98%, compared to estimates of 97.5% to 101%.
