Government Implements Piggery Biogas Projects
PHILIPPINES - As the government comes out with programs encouraging the use of alternative sources of energy, the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) here encouraged students and local residents to research and use other indigenous sources.
Engr. Genna Jallorina of DOST said in an interview that their office had been providing technical assistance to students in their investigatory projects which are of beneficial use.
Because of the continuous increase in oil price, they are encouraging students conducting research studies to explore the use of indigenous raw materials as alternative source of energy.
DOST is currently implementing biogas projects to piggery owners in some parts of the province which they hope will be replicated in households.
Piggery owners will not only benefit from the sales of their pigs but can be assured of continuous supply of gas in their kitchens.
Aquilino Saguilot one of their clients, is enjoying the use of free gas right from the pig dung that is gathered in a tank. The gas is collected in a gas collector then is piped straight to their burner.
Saguilot said they have been using free gas for two years now the amount saved was instead spent for other household needs and food.
