Print This Page Livestock Farming in Russia in the first half of 2006
RUSSIA - As of July 1, 2006, Russian agricultural producers (all categories) had an estimated 22.8 million head of cattle, down 5.3% year-on-year (including 9.6 million cows, down 5.6%), 15.3 million hogs, up 4.7%, and 21.0 million sheep and goats, 2.9% more.Households held 46.4% of all cattle, 44.7% of hogs, and 51.3% of sheep and goats, compared to respectively 46.3%, 47.6% and 53.7% at the start of July 2005.
Animal populations at agricultural organizations on July 1 were down 6.7% for cattle, including 6.5% for cows, and 4.2% for sheep and goats, but up 10.2% for hogs.
Russian agricultural producers in the first half of 2006 produced an estimated 3.2 million tonnes of animals and poultry for slaughter (live weight), 15.4 million tonnes of milk, and 19.1 billion eggs.
