PIC's Sales Drives Demand For Another Semen Collection Centre
UK - Since the arrival of the PIC 327 and 337 boars at PIC’s GTCs (Gene Transfer Centres) three years ago, sales increased so rapidly that we began planning a fifth GTC over 18 months ago.
Following an extensive search for a suitable partner for this GTC, we eventually found a site that would satisfy the rigorous bio-security measures required for all PIC nucleus units and GTCs. Warren Farm, PIC’s new GTC, was completed and stocked in January 2006.
In accordance with PIC’s strict AI policy, it is an EU licensed semen collection centre and ABP approved. All PIC sire and damlines are available from GTC Warren, which has the potential to hold 180 boars immediately and a further 100 when required.
The centre currently employs three fulltime employees but staffing levels will increase in relation to boar numbers. As part of our strict bio-security and health protocols – which we believe are the most rigorous in the industry – we maintain a showering-in policy and visitors are restricted to essential visits only, including a weekly visit by our veterinary consultant.
