Pig farmer is the face of Tesco pork
UK - Pig farmer Ed Lankfer has become one of the faces promoting a range of Tesco Finest Pork - much to his great surprise. Now, the third generation family farmer from West Norfolk is becoming even better known to shoppers across the country as his photograph is also appearing on pork chops, fillets and pork bellies.
The pig enterprise at Wereham, near Downham Market, is key to the success of the long-established arable business, which was started by his grandfather. A former baker in Fincham, he sold the business and started farming in 1929 moving to Wereham three years later.
"I'm now appearing in all Tesco stores throughout the country. I was put on Tesco's Finest pork joint coated with Mediterranean sea salt," said Mr Lankfer, 32, who is also chairman of Stoke Ferry Agricultural Society.
"It is a postage stamp size photograph and it explains that I work on my parents' farm producing pigs to the highest welfare standards," he added.
"We have an arable unit which produces straw which goes for the pigs. We get the pigs at about 30kg and then take them through to 100kg or 105kg. It fits in very well with our system because we've got arable crops producing lots of straw.
