Pork industry prepared for NAIS
US - Patrick Webb believes the U.S. pork industry is well prepared for implementation of the National Animal Identification System.Webb, director of swine health programs for the National Pork Board in Des Moines, says two groups have met to develop standards for pork producers.
He says the first group, the Pork Industry Identification Working Group, worked to develop program standards for swine. The group has been meeting for nearly two years.
“They've developed the standards and should changes need to be made, they will make them,” Webb says.
The other group is the Swine Identification Implementation Task Force. Webb says this group is charged with putting those standards into place.
“With both groups, we really have a good cross-section of the industry,” he says. “It's gone very well for our industry.”
