USDA issues beef, pork production stats
US - Local beef production -- local slaughter rather than export -- grew 11 percent in 2006 to 6.1 million pounds, the result of both a growing market for local beef and increased sales through local military commissary contracts.Cattle marketings spiked in December to 6,900, more than 50 percent more than in any of the previous five months. Farm prices by year's end came to 99 cents a pound, up 2 cents from a year earlier.

Hawaii pork production for 2006 fell 2 percent to 3.7 million pounds, with December production down 8 percent from year-before levels. Market dress weight was $1.21 per pound on average, down 1 percent from a year earlier.
Hawaii milk production for 2006 was 56.2 million pounds, down 19 percent from the previous year. By December the state dairy herds were down to 3,800 head, 24 percent below the count a year earlier. Farm price was $27 per hundredweight, up 1 percent from a year earlier.
Hawaii egg production is running 7.4 million per month, or 20,556 cases, based on figures from December. The amount is down 16 percent from year-before levels. Average numbers of layers on hand is estimated at 409,000. Average farm price for a dozen eggs was 93 cents, down 11 percent from a year earlier.
