Pork industry told to get its act together
UK - A more efficient pork supply chain will bring major advantages to the industry, according to a leading East Anglian-based marketing specialist.More producers were realising the benefits of being involved in a cohesive pork supply chain, said Tony Suckling, of Porcofram Marketing.
He said the group had reorganised management and staffing to assist producers to take advantage of the opportunities now available.
"The benefits of a cohesive pork supply chain include financial stability for producers, suppliers, processors and their suppliers and a regular supply of quality British pork to butchers and multiple retailers," said Mr Suckling.
"A properly organised supply chain will benefit all concerned. This must be the way forward. There is no place in today's world for isolationism. Producers must get more involved in what happens to their pigs all the way through from farm to supermarket shelf.
"As the pig marketing arm of national feed compounders BOCM Pauls, we have been urging closer liaison between all sectors of the pork production chain for several years.
"It follows involvement in a Defra-supported research project which highlighted the advantages gained by continental producers operating co-ordinated supply operations.
