Distillers grains seminar for pork, poultry industries
US - A seminar on the use of distillers grains from the ethanol industry is being held at the Midland Lutheran College in Fremont, Nebraska on 14 June 2007.Sponsored by University of Nebraska, Lincoln's Institute of Agriculture and Natural Resources, the Nebraska Pork Producers Association, Nebraska Corn Board and the Poultry and Egg Division of the Nebraska Department of Agriculture, the one day event will help pig and poultry farmers, and agribusiness representatives, learn more about current technologies and using corn processing co-products in animals feeds.
The seminar is in response to increasing concerns from the states farmers about raw materials availability and prices in light of the rapidly expanding biofuel and ethanol business. More corn will be directed into producing ethanol and producers want to know more about alternative ingredients and the nutritional value of by-products from ethanol plants
Duane Reese, swine specialist at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, will open proceedings.
The morning program will consist of general topics for pork and poultry producers. In the afternoon, producers will attend sessions dedicated to either pork or poultry production.
Presenters will include Institute of Agriculture and Natural Resources specialists, Nebraska Department of Agriculture officials and representatives from the Nebraska Corn Board, Nebraska Pork Producers Association and private industry.
