A trend reversal for the better is expected. Being a counterpart to the meat processing industry, the producers in Germany, the Netherlands, Belgium and Austria were able to hold sway and have quotations increase by 5 cents. Denmark once again brings up the rear in Europe with its unchanged quotation, and not being in a position to participate in the 'bouyant' atmosphere.

Russia recently put a ban on meat imports from some Brazilian meat processing plants after salmonellae and other irregularities had been detected there. This approach might be causing EU pork exports to increase.

On top of that, market experts expect Poland to reduce its pig fattening stock due to the bad economical situation, and so cut back pork production. They say that the impact of this should be visible in the second half of 2007, by a 10-percent decrease in pork production. Over the first half of 2008, another 15 percent of the stock is expected to be cut down.
