Pig farmers nervous

NEW ZEALAND - The pig industry is getting nervous about a proposed plan to relax meat import standards.

Biosecurity is considering allowing untreated pig meat into the country, which farmers here say will only increase the risk of disease.

Waimate pig farmer Ian McCallum-Jackson says Biosecurity has turned a blind eye to the risks, in favour of a free trade agreement with other countries.
