Print This Page Red meat production up 25 percent
US - Commercial red meat production for South Dakota totaled 93.6 million pound during August, according to the National Agricultural Statistics Service.This was up 25 percent from one year ago and up 23 percent from last month.
Pork production was up in August, but sheep and lamb production was down from one year ago.
Commercial hog slaughter for South Dakota totaled 454,600 head during August compared to 347,600 head the year before. Average live weight was 252 pounds, which was down 2 pounds from last year.
