China denies African Swine Fever

CHINA - China has denied speculative overseas media reports that African Swine Fever has broken out in its north-eastern province of Heilongjiang.

Pigs at 76 premises in 14 towns of Heilongjiang's cities of Hulin and Mishan and county of Jidong have been tested negative, says the Ministry of Agriculture (MOA) and the disease or its symptoms have not been detected  in the province.

The MOA said thet it tested the pigs' blood and tissue samples with methods recommended by the World Organisation for Animal Health (OIE). The tests indicated the pigs were healthy and there were no outbreaks of any swine diseases.

A number of foreign media have reported that ASF has occured in Hulin, Mishan and Jidong, the MOA stated.

China has never had the disease as the country bans imports of live pigs and related products from regions hit by the disease.
