Chinese Pork Prices Remain High

According to figures released on 9 December, the Ministry of Commerce says live pigs were being sold at 15.27 yuan per kilogram, which is 0.24 yuan higher than the historical record set in August. And Pork prices are now sitting at 20.52 yuan per kilogram, which is also 0.32 yuan higher than the figure in August.

Wang Xinpei, Spokesman of Ministry of Commerce said: "There are two reasons behind the hike in live pig and pork prices. One reason is the hike in feed and oil, which increased the feeding and transportation costs; the other is the growth in demand during the winter. "

The spokesman also says pig farming is gradually rising with the government's support measures. However, the rising costs and growing demand will still impact the price of pork. It is expected to remain high in the coming few months.
