EU prices: Light at the End of Tunnel?
EU - The situation in the European slaughter pig market remains unchanged.Large quantities of finished pigs are still being offered, supplies are abundant and easily within the demand at what is usually a cautious season. During the New Year period exports always slowdown a bit and domestic demand drops following Christmas and holiday festivities. Currently the market is well balanced, leaving most quotations unchanged.
Quotations in Eastern Europe remain on the upswing, having taken the lead in Europe for the first time ever. However, the British price is still under significant pressure due to currency differences. Exports towards Great Britain are becoming far less attractive - which may benefit its domestic industry.
Trend: Even if pressure continues on the meat business, it seems the hardest times may soon be over.
