ASF Surveillance Rolled Out as Restriction Lifted

According to reports in Today.AZ, the village of Nij in Gabala, the disease has been culled out and providing there are no other outbreaks and disease prevention strategies are maintained, the area could be free from quarantine measures by early March.

Yolchu Khanveli, a spokesman for the State Veterinary Service under Azerbaijan's Ministry of Agriculture confirmed that 193 swines were either infected or suspected of having African Swine Fever and were dispatched at the end of January. There have been no new outbreaks reported in the Nij area to date and the disease has not been detected in any other region of the country.

The veterinary service has said that all of Azerbaijan's pig farms must to implement a closely controlled working regime to safeguard pig health and protect stock. The State Veterinary Service also plans to introduce an ASF surveillance.

African Swine Fever was discoverd in Georgia in June last year. Along with Azerbaijan, the African swine fever has been detected in Georgia, Armenia and Russia's southern region.
