DENMARK - The Danish Bacon and Meat Council has clarified its position on its request for industry aid.A sourced article published on ThePigSite last week (12 Feb 2008: 'Danes in plea for help'), said that the Danish Meat Association (DMA) was to 'make a plea to the Danish Parliament for pig industry aid'.
However, John Howard, Marketing Director, Danish Bacon and Meat Council, has explained that if this reference was in respect to the introduction of national aids, then this is simply not the case.
"The Board of Representatives of Danish Crown has in fact asked the DMA to redouble its efforts to find political solutions, which will mitigate the serious economic crisis experienced by Danish producers currently," he told ThePigSite.
He added that these solutions may include:
- a more even and fairer application of EU rules across all Member States
- encouraging availability of cheaper feedstuffs for pig producers
- reviewing the overzealous application of EU rules by the Danish authorities
- working towards a 'more level playing field' for EU producers in global markets
