Private Storage Aid Increased to Three Months
EU - A proposal to increase Private Storage Aid (PSA) for pigs to a maximum period of three months was given the go ahead at the February meeting of the European pig management committee.However, the committee has decided not to change the rates for export refunds and they will remain unchanged.
In reviewing the market situation, the committee heard that prices for pig carcases in the EU27 are remaining stable.
From 18 February the committee heard that there has been an average increase of around one per cent in prices.
The EU27 average carcase price is holding at around 132-133 Euros per 100kg.
Soya prices have risen substantially and feed prices in general continue to rise.
Most de-stocking of private storage aid is forecast to take place in May/June and may continue until July of this year.
The committee also hard that the results of recent pig survey indicates a drop in pig meat production in 2007 for some member states.
The pig management committee approved the Pig Carcase Grading Protocols in France but the protocols for Lithuania will be voted on at the next meeting. A draft version of the regulations governing the Pig Carcase Grading Protocols in Greece will also be tabled at the next meeting, which takes place on 19 March.
