Falling Supplies Forces Pork Factory Job Cuts
NORTHERN IRELAND - Ballyclare's Pork and bacon factory, FC Robinson, is to axe almost one third of its workforce. Around 15 jobs will be lost at the company's Hillhead Road site as part of a redundancy package.Factory manager, Paul Adamson, says that a slump in the pig processing sector is to blame.
A report in the Newtownabbey Times, said, it had led to a "significant reduction" in the number of animals available for slaughter and the business was struggling to source the 1,500 carcases a week that it requires to stay in business. The company will now concentrate on processing primal cuts from a range of suppliers and it has secured adequate supplies of NI pork to ensure the new strategy is a success.
"In FC Robinson's case the reduction has been in excess of 20% and in order to protect the customer base and secure the company's future, a restructuring programme is being implemented with a stronger focus on the local market and increasing sales of value added product," said Mr Adamson.
