Government Will Meet Pig Farmers To Discuss Relocation

MALAYSIA - The state government plans to relocate the country's pig farmers to a an area where they can continue their businesses in a clean, healthy and Japanese Encephalitis (JE)- free environment.

Speaking after a meeting with Batang Padang district officer Datuk Md Damiri Md Sairi and representatives of villagers and housing estates, Sivanesan, state Health, Environment and Human Resources Committee chairman, acknowledged the farmers 'right to livelihood'.

Reports in The Star Online, said that he appreciated the difficuties when handling the problems of pig-rearing in the district which has over 150,000 animals. He said that the issue was sensitive and he would meet the pig farmers to work out a solution.

Approximately 32 farms and 150,301 pigs are located in the district, which stretches from Tanjung Malim to Bidor and here.
