Print This Page Pig, lamb sale prices exceed last year's auction
US - Prices paid for swine and lamb were better than expected at the annual Monroe County Pig and Lamb Sale held earlier this week at the Monroe fairgrounds. The Monroe News says that sale of 45 lambs went for an average of $247 each and the auction of about 70 feeder pigs went for about $200 on average, according to organizers.
Hog prices were up from last year, when the pigs sold for around $179 a head, said Ray Kuehnlein, a partner in the Kuehnlein Family Show Pigs in Raisinville Township.
"I've been to some sales already and they've all been down this year," he said.
Larry Hammons of Ottawa Lake, who sold lambs, also was pleased with the prices received Sunday.
