Marathon Man Matthew Says Thanks to Industry

UK - Matthew Curtis, Managing director of Yorkshire-based pig breeding company, ACMC Ltd has fitness in his genes. He completed the Flora London Marathon last week 4 hours 15 seconds and has raised over £3,000 for Macmillan Cancer Support.

His sponsorship was generated from contacts within the pig industry and considering the difficulties being faced by farmers and the supply trade he said that their generosity is outstanding.

Going the distance. Matthew Curtis, raised more than £3000 for charity.

"I am grateful for their support for such a worthwhile cause," said Matthew.

This was Matthew's second London marathon, but says this year's the cooler conditions - compared with last year's sweltering 22 deg C, helped him almost to crack the four-hour mark. He actually finished in the top third of the 34,420 people who completed the 26+ mile course.

"The last six miles are a real killer, but you get boosted by the crowd over the final three," said Matthew.

And, while he was pleased to have beaten his previous year's time of 4 hours 10 minutes, he was disappointed not to have come under that ellusive four-hour 'barrier'. But he hasn't ruled out doing it again!

He fitted training around a busy ACMC schedule and put in around 35 miles of running from October until the race.
