Pig Crisis Puts Government Under Interrogation

SCOTLAND - The Scottish Government is being questioned about the situation of the existing pig industry. It had been criticised by a north-east MSP for issuing a series of holding replies yesterday.

According to The Press and Journal, West Aberdeenshire and Kincardine MSP and Liberal Democratic rural affairs spokesman Mike Rumbles branded the government lazy for not responding to the 21 questions he had put to Rural Affairs Cabinet Secretary Richard Lochhead on the crisis facing the pig sector.

Mr Rumbles added: “This is yet another slap in the face to Scottish pig farmers. The government’s attitude to pig farmers is appalling.”

The spokesman also revealed that Mr Lochhead will next Thursday meet with representatives of the main retailers to discuss the crisis facing pig farmers.
