Print This Page Problem Pigs Culled in Nguiu
AUSTRALIA - About 20 pigs have been culled on the Northern Territory island community of Nguiu, north of Darwin. Many of the pigs were living in and under people's homes and were blamed for perpetuating skin parasites that affect humans, reports ABC.
Tiwi Shire chief executive Mark Goode says it has been tricky to convince some people that even the pet pigs have to go.
He says the animals have been trapped and shot, but were causing a lot of problems.
Mr Goode says the piglets will need to be dealt with and they are offering kids A$5 per piglet if they can catch them and bring them in.
